My introductory lecture at the 5th Yaoundé Session of the Strasbourg International Institute of Human Rights

Connecting dots between IHRL and IHL – engaging lawyers, judges, international civil servants, academics, CSOs, NHRIs.

International humanitarian law and international human rights law are two distinct but complementary areas of public international law.

They dots between these two sections of public international law are to be found in their shared mandate to protect of life, health and dignity.

However, international humanitarian law applies in armed conflict while human rights law applies at all times, in peace and in war.

The Yaoundé Session provides a unique framework for stakeholders in the region to engage on best to capitalise on these intersections between various areas of public international law.
